It is a light yellow liquid in the standard state, slightly soluble in water, and easily soluble in ethanol and ether. It is the raw material for manufacturing nylon-610 fiber and nylon-9 fiber. Its esters are plasticizers in the plastics industry. It is made by separating castor oil after heating saponification and thermal cracking.
